This weekend we went out for Gavin’s second Fridays after Five. After the music, we went to South Street Brewery to meet up with friends for a little while. We no longer spend entire evenings out, but are trying to have a little time doing fun things. In this photo, Gavin is bellied-up to the bar for his first beer.
This is the reading corner. But very little reading gets done. So far, Gavin doesn’t like to be read to. He starts crying. But he is tolerating it more and more. This week I managed to get through a Winnie the Pooh story in only two sittings!
We love the rocker and use it all the time to soothe the baby to sleep. Scott even bought me a neck pillow so that I will be comfortable when sleeping sitting up with Gavin in my arms!
This is Gavin’s crib. The wooden letters of his name were a gift from his cousins. He has yet to sleep for more than about a half-hour in the crib, but we are working on it. We have since put a mobile up which he loves to look at, but it excites him instead of soothing him to sleep!
He has yet to “sleep through the night”, but this week he slept for a 7 hour stretch. Now, if Mama would go to bed at the same time, she might get a good night’s sleep!
Gavin’s room is finally starting to look like a bedroom and not just a storeroom of baby stuff. It took several days, but I managed to hang some shelves for his nice things.
Gavin is really beginning to play with toys. His play gym is good for long periods of fun. He bats at the hanging toys and uses his feet to step on the crinkly things. At first I wasn’t sure if he was flailing around aimlessly, but now I can tell he is moving deliberately and really interacting with things. Very cool!
Gavin loves his bouncy seat. He is big enough now that moving his legs really makes it bounce. And since Jodie gave us the mobile to go with it, Gavin spends a lot of time staring at the stars. It really gets him excited!

On my first Mother’s Day we were at Mark and Jodie’s cottage on the river. We tried for quite a while to get a portrait where all of us looked good, but in the end, Gavin was fussy. Well, that’s life with a new baby!
Gavin met cousin Margaret and got into a deep conversation! I think this picture is hilarious because it looks like they are arguing.
On Friday night Gavin met his great-uncle Rob. Rob was sure that we had named the baby “Robert” after him. I said the if he insisted the baby be named after him that I would be happy to call Rob “Uncle Gavin” from now on!
