The End of Cool

Well, that wold be true if we were actually cool before this. But there is no doubt. We bought a mini-van a 2007 Honda Odyssey. We put it in Jane’s name so Scott can maintain plausible deniability on the uncool thing.

Gavin loves his toys now. He likes this Tigger toy because he can always get a part of it in his mouth! When he can’t get a toy in his mouth he yells at it! I’m told this is a boy thing and doesn’t mean he’ll be the class bully!

Gavin during his first week home from the hospital. Though he seems fussier than before going into the hospital (who wouldn’t be), we have our Gavin back. He is still happy and smiley, plays with toys, coos and talks to us and is a pleasure to be around. Now if we could just get him to sleep in his crib again!

In the hospital, Gavin was given a home-made toy. We named him Dino Dog because he is a dog wearing dinosaurs on his clothes. This is the first stuffed animal that Gavin has reacted to. Whenever he sees Dino Dog he smiles and laughs and talks to him. It is Gavin’s first Friend.

Grandma is wearing a mask because we were not sure what made Gavin sick and the doctors thought for a while it was whooping cough.

Gavin in Hospital

Gavin gave us all a very big scare when he stopped breathing at daycare. He is OK now, but here is the story.

They noticed that he had turned blue and immediately took action to get him breathing again. But somewhere in there he aspirated (breathed in his spit-up) and as a result continued to have difficulty breathing. At the hospital, they put him on a ventilator, and he was in the ICU for 5 days. Once on a ventilator, it was hard to get him off because they needed to keep him sedated. But they finally got him off, and the next day moved him out of ICU. This picture is taken on his first morning out of ICU. I came into his room to find the sun shining on him, most tubes removed, and him looking beautiful. It was such a relief.

There is no explanation about why he stopped breathing, though he was tested for almost anything that they thought it might be. It is a very scary thing, and now that he is home, we have a monitor to tell us if he stops breathing again. There is no reason to think it will happen again. The monitor is so that Mama and Daddy can sleep.
